Coqui Notes from the Principal
So thankful our area was spared by Idalia and we were able to resume school as normal. According
to the Instructional Calendar, the Hurricane Make-up Days are scheduled for Friday, December 22nd
and Friday, February 16th. The District will make a decision and provide the updated Instructional
Calendar shortly and I will share this with parents upon receiving.
It’s hard to believe we have finished the third week of school. Students are settling into their daily
routines and buzzing with excitement to learn new content. Would you like to know what your child
will be learning this school year? Curriculum Night at Treeline will feature a presentation by your
child’s teacher detailing curriculum, daily routine and expectations for the year. Plan to attend one
of two sessions held on the evening of Tuesday, September 12th. When you receive the flyer, please
send the bottom portion of the flyer to your child’s teacher indicating the session time preference.
Parents who attend will give their child an opportunity to wear an animal/safari or Treeline spirit
shirt with uniform bottoms the following day on Wednesday.
Rainy season continues to impact us at the beginning of the school year. When dismissal is changed to a Rainy Day we have a process to follow which takes longer than our normal routine. If there is lightning in the area, 10 miles or less, our parent pick-up reduces to one lane instead of two. Buses can only load under the awning with four at a time, therefore, most buses will leave campus later than usual. Our walkers must be picked up at the café doors by parents, bring your car tag for easy pick-up. A School Messenger text will be sent to parents on rainy day dismissal. If you have not signed up for School Messenger yet, the directions are below. At times, the weather can look clear but there may be lightning within a 10-mile radius.
During our morning announcements, a character word of the week is discussed for reflection and application. The most recent words focus on the Treeline Expectations which are rooted in all we do at Treeline. We like to take every opportunity to encourage our students to be responsible, respectful and safe. Students who consistently follow the Treeline Expectations of Be Respectful,Responsible and Safe are chosen by the teacher as a STAR student and their name is announced on the news, our first announcement is next week. Following the news, students take a picture together to be featured in the upcoming parent newsletter. The STAR student pictures for September will be featured in the October Newsletter.
Every grade level has also attended an assembly to discuss the PBS Expectations, Gold Coquis and Coqui Cash they earn at school. Gold coquis and cash are used to support positive choices for building good character. In addition, students learn to budget their cash for items or events they would like to attend throughout the school year.
Our Treeline planner has tons of information for our parents including the school calendar, thinking map descriptions, student handbook and an AR program explanation. In the back of the planner, students have a page called Safari Spotlight Awards. Each quarter students can earn their way to a Principal Party by meeting the criteria outlined on the Safari Spotlight Awards page.
A very special thank you to our wonderful PTO for planning the Back to School Bash. It was a great evening filled with happy families and time to connect with others.
Another special thank you to our partners and their donations to Treeline: Nothing Bundt Cakes, Summit Church, Colonial Country Club and Smart Endeavors ABA.
We are WILD About Learning this school year and look forward to seeing you at Curriculum Night.
